CHAMBRELAN innovates new bearing guides for airplane cabin seats

Rouen, 12 March 2021 – major manufacturer of telescopic ball bearing slides and linear guide rails, the Normandy-based company CHAMBRELAN is desining a range of linear guides dedicated to the aeronautics sector. The first telescopic slide in this range is a bearing slide with a compact and lightweight profile. It was specifically created for Business and First Class seats in commercial aviation, enabling them to be converted into beds.

Located in Normandy, CHAMBRELAN has been manufacturing industrial telescopic slides and guide rails for more than sixty years. Having all the production, design and development capacities in-house, the company can meet the various types of demand, from customised production, in small and large series, to industrialisation.

Its slides and bearing systems are developed in-house in its product design office. Every year, the company invests in new machine tools, equipment and tooling to expand its offer and diversify its markets. With a view to developing the aeronautical market, its latest investments have focused on the creation of a new range of linear translation solutions to equip the seats of commercial aircraft. This responds to four main airline challenges:

      • compact,
      • load capacity,
      • weight reduction
      • crash resistance.

The first product in range : the E1432, has been developed specifically for business and first class seats in commercial aviation, allowing linear seat extension and conversion into a bed. CHAMBRELAN has designed a compact profile that can support a load of up to 200 kilos and has developed a specific machining process to reduce the weight. Surface treatment, combining corrosion resistance, reduced deflection and hardening, guarantees load resistance.

The development includes new parts for seat-related elements: armrests, headrest, footrest, shelf and partition. The challenge is to identify a common denominator to design parts that can suit all seat manufacturers. This new range dedicated to the aeronautics industry represents around 400,000€, with 120,000€ for the E1432.

Although all production is carried out on the Le Havre site, CHAMBRELAN has had a strong international presence since 1989 through 7 sales subsidiaries: Germany, United Kingdom, Benelux, Canada, Switzerland, Czech Republic and more recently Poland where the company opened a subsidiary in 2020. Export share exceed 70% of its turnover, which overall amounts to 12 million euros in 2020.

In 2021, CHAMBRELAN continues its diversification in aeronautics and joined the NAE network at the end of 2019. The medical sector is also a priority sector where its know-how can be transposed. In this development approach, its sales team should soon be reinforced with new recruitments, the company currently has a staff of 55 people, 46 of whom are based in Le Havre.
